Come See Us at the Philadelphia Bike Expo

We are excited to go to the Philadelphia Bike Expo next weekend. Unlike the typical consumer shows that are held in many places (including Seattle), the Philly Show’s focus is similar to what we do at Bicycle Quarterly: Artisans, Activists, Alternatives.

We look forward to meeting many old friends among the riders and builders from the Eastern U.S., and to making new friends at the show. On Saturday at noon, I will give a presentation about the famous constructeur René Herse, and there will be many other interesting presentations. (Click here for the complete schedule.)

Look for the Bicycle Quarterly banner over our booth, and check out our magazines and books, as well as a constructeur bike with Compass’s René Herse cranks and other components. If you are in the region, please come by the Expo and visit us.

The Bilenky family does a wonderful job organizing and running these expos, in my experience. I highly recommend attending if you can. I very much enjoyed the Madison, Wisconsin one that they offered last year, even though it was small, as we don’t get much like this in the Midwest each year (that is worth attending, imo). Richard Schwinn was there, as was the legendary framebuilder Oscar Wastyn. There was a beautiful circa 1935 chrome Wastyn six-day track-racing bike that was just stunning. Still had its original decals, I believe….

Jan, hearing your present on Rene Herse would be fantastic. Will this be recorded or somehow made available for the unfortunate masses who are unable to attend?
